Dateline: Day Seventeen

Ok.  Slow first half of the day but it ended big.  I did my scene tonight for John Kirby's class.  Of course we went last.  We sat and watched four hours of scenes before ours came up.  BUT it was good.  Sarah did great and the class seemed to enjoy it.  John did mention something that I think will be a difficulty for me as far as screen acting is concerned.  He said that I was too over the top.  I acted too big.  That is what you have to do on stage, but on screen it doesn't fly unless you're Jim Carrey or Chris Farley.  So breaking the Stage Acting trance I am in is going to be my challenge while I'm out here.  John wants to meet with me one on one this week to go over some things.  I think it's because I'm new and he doens't know me as I don't know him...creatively speaking.

Anyway.  That's really all that happened today.  I worked on screenplays and went for a nice walk.

I have to say this.  This city is somewhat difficult.  You can drive a route one day at 5 and drive it the same day the next week at 4 and it's completely different traffic wise.  Last week I took the 101 at 6 and had no problem getting to class. Today I was to meet Sarah early to run lines and I took the 101 at 5 and it was a parking lot.  I guess LA didn't get the memo that it has to get used to me not the other way around.

So I'm off to bed.  I have my headshots taken tomorrow and that's about it so far.  Maybe I can dig up a dinner with Speilberg or something.  HEY!!! It could happen.

I hope you all have a great day!
Charles

  1. I love reading your blog entries. They're so funny! Glad you're class went well. Since you've never done film acting, and have done several stage acts, I'm not surprised at his comments. I hope you can get a lot out of the one on one time. Love and miss you!!! 7 days!!! I can't wait!

  2. I also enjoy reading your blogs. You are sooooo funny, son!

One on one time with John should be good.

I wonder why one days traffic is so different from another day at roughly the same hour?

Sharon and Conner are getting anxious to see you. Guess we have to wait somewhat longer.

    Love, mom
