Dateline: Day Nineteen

Just for the record...Nineteen...much easier to spell.

Plus I put pictures of all the people I refer to up to the left.  So you can see the faces that go with the names.

So I went to luch with Danny Roebuck today.  We went to the California Pizza Kitchen.  I was very good.  He also invited a friend along.  Duane Whitaker has been in Pulp Fiction, The Devil's Rejects, and the most recent Halloween 2.  Great guy.  (Incidentally, for those of you who have seen Pulp Fiction, he was the store owner where Bruce Willis goes and ends up in the basement with Marsalis.  Bruce kills him with a samari sword.)  He teaches a workshop on acting for the camera.  I start that class Sunday Night.  He said he is also going to introduce me to a producer friend that night becuase he thinks we'll hit it off and he might have work for me.  We'll see.

Didn't go to the casting director's offices today.  Will go tomorrow.  They are right next to John  Kirby's studio which were I will be at 1:00 anyway for a one on one with John.  We will be discussing how I can bring my acting down for the screen.  I realize  was doing the scene for the students in the back row when I should have been doing the scene for just my acting partner.  If I get it across to her I get it across to the camera.  Just because the person in the back row of the class doesn't get it doesn't mean I did the scene bad...it just means it's for the camera and not the stage.

While I'm at lunch I get a call from a Shawna.  She is from Actor's Collective.  I called her back when I got home.  She waned to know if I was stil intereste in the workshop for this Saturday afternoon.  I said I was and found out that the casting director for Hawthorne on TNT is going to be there and they are currently casting.  So I will either get a scene tomorrow to prepare or I will do a cold read on Saturday.  She also looked at my resume and told me that it was formatted wrong and she sent me hers to go off of.  I have since redone my resume and feel a lot better about it.  So I sign up for the class. I wanted to make sure first that I wasn't going to be wasting my time and money by doing this.  Like I said above I have a problem with acting too big.  But she said that I have enough experience that I should be fine and that a lot of times you do a scene and the casting director gives you notes and lets you do it again.  So I have to be in Hollywood Saturday at 2:00.

I then start reading a book about how to get the job when you get an audition.  It's an old book but several have said it is a great resource.  I get a text from Betsy Cramer...refer to earlier blog...and we had talked about getting together to discuss how things were going.  So we met in Studio City at The Aroma Cafe.  It was a tiny cafe but they had seating all outside around the building.  It was a neat place.  So I told her what all has happened in the past two weeks since we talked last.  She was suprised at how much I have gotten done and how many people I already know.  Most of whome I knew before i came out here.  It was a good talk and then I came home and called Rondell for an hour and a half conversation about our screenplay.

Tomorrow.  Going to the extra's casting offices and the one on one with John, and that's it.  I always hope things pop up for me to do.  Maybe I'll just go and write by the pool tomorrow evening.  Who knows.

That's about it.  I hope you all have a great day!

Charles

  1. This post was both interesting and encouraging!
The busier you are with meetings, auditions, etc., your time out there alone will go faster.

Andrew and Laura might be able to come home during Thanksgiving week since Laura will have the whole week off from school; money and weather permitting I'm sure.

    Love, mom
