Dateline: Day Fourteen

Ok.  Saturday.  It was a good one.  I got up early and helped John DiAquino with his kids class at around 9 (that's early out here) then I stayed for the adult class at 11.  It was a good couple of classes.  John Sackman and I did our seen from Of Mice And Men.  We got some good feedback and notes.  We have to take the notes and adjust it for next Saturday.

In the class we also helped a 13 year old girl with her audition for an ABC Sitcom Pilot.  Her audition isn't till Thursday but it is unbelievable what all you have to prepare for.  Not only do you just read lines you have to take into account where the scene is located, what happened just prior to that scene, what happens after that scene, who the other characters are in the scene, and so on.  Mannerisms, posture, voice flux, eye contact (or no eye contact).  It was good to see the process that actors have to go through to just prepare for.

Also a little note.  Japheth Gordon led the kid's class.  He will be on "Dexter" Sunday night.  He's in the opening scene as a police officer grilling Dexter.  He also just shot an episode of CSI about a week and a half ago.  He's in several scenes in that show.  It's the biggest role he's gotten to date.  I don't know the air date but he will let me know when he knows.  I say that so anyone curious who I am hanging out with out here can tune into Dexter on Showtime and see one person.  He is very talented and you will be seeing him in the future.  He reminds me and Sharon of Will Smith in a lot of ways.

I went to lunch at a local restaurant called the Elephant Restaurant or something which is downtown.  Burbank is unusual because it's in the valley.  That is a literal statement.  When I drove down Olive to downtown I was basically driving towards the base of a mountain.  Now we are actually on a plateau between some mountains and this was the tip of a bigger mountain, but the scene is really amazing.  I can't imagine the people who were born here and know no different.

So then I came home and worked some more on the screenplay.  I took a nice dip in the pool, took a shower and then watched "Scent of a Woman" with Al Pacino.  I know what some of you are thinking..."Girlie flick!".  No not really.  If you want a school in acting watch this film.  Pay attention to both Al and Chris O'Donnell.  Al won an Oscar over CLINT! for that role.  He deserved it.  Although at the time I have not seen the movie and thought Clint should have won.  I broke the remote against the wall if I remember correctly.:)  Anyway, it's not for everyone, if you can get past the language it really is a great movie.

I know the weather isn't the greatest in Indiana right now.  I do have to say that I have been here almost two solid weeks and everyday I leave the apartment I look up and try to find a cloud.  I have yet to see one.  It's amazing.

And here I am.  Getting ready for bed.  It's 10:50pm.  Tomorrow my acting partner from John Kirby's class is coming over to rehearse the scene from "Marty".  Then it's a walk, another dip in the pool, and work on another screenplay.

I hope everyone has a great day!
Charles
